The ADF’s command and control arrangements have been evolving since the 1970s. Over the past 10 years significant change has occurred with the establishment of the Joint Operations Command at Bungendore and the Military Strategic Commitments Division in Canberra.  These arrangements have now been tested on operations in Timor Leste, the Solomon Islands, Iraq  and Afghanistan; and on Australia’s border security tasking. There is much to be learnt from these operations as Defence continues to refine its command and control arrangements for the future.  This presentation will review the changes to the ADF’s command and control arrangements including observations for their rationale. It will also posit some of the challenges for the future as the ADF winds back its operational commitments
