Future Strategic Leaders' Congress

Resource Security - Vulnerabilities of a Globalised Democracy

Friday 31 May- Sunday 2 June 2013

In the world of increasing dependence on finite resources, Australia must strike a balance between self-reliance and international trade to achieve a resource-secure Australia that supports a national security posture. What is resource security? How can Australia achieve a resource-secure position in balancing its self-reliance and international relations?

This congress will examine the role Australia’s resources, vast and varied, play in supporting national security into the coming decades and how it can balance its economic, industrial and diplomatic capabilities to achieve this goal
.

About the Future Strategic Leaders' Congresses

The Future Strategic Leaders' Program gathers twice a year for a weekend-long Future Strategic Leaders' Congress.

The purposes of the Congress are to:

  • Enable Future Strategic Leaders to meet and network with senior national security decision makers

  • Foster the professional development of Future Strategic Leaders through seminars, workshops hypothetical/s and informal discussions

  • Facilitate networking of Future Strategic Leaders with their professional colleagues in other organisations

  • Foster the development of esprit de corps amongst the Future Strategic Leaders
What to expect
The weekend involves a series of workshops and seminars with senior national security community leaders and industry heads. The weekend’s activities are structured around a central theme with time in between seminars and workshops to talk informally with some of Australia’s senior officials.

Who should attend
The Future Strategic Leaders’ Congress should be a priority for young professionals employed in all parts of the Australian national security community and for graduates who aspire to work within the Australian national security community. The Congress program has been designed from the outset to build the strategic, analytical, leadership and networking skills of future strategic professionals.
Please note that all applications to attend the Future Strategic Leaders’ Program Congress will be reviewed by the Board of the Kokoda Foundation, which retains absolute discretion on whether individual applications are accepted.
