Countering Transnational and Serious Organised Crime - Research Workshop #2 - Invitation Only

  • 06 Dec 2018

Registration

Transnational Serious and Organised Crime (TSOC) includes such activities as child exploitation, human trafficking and slavery, illicit drugs, illicit weapons, and money laundering. Additionally, the intersection between TSOC and global terrorism is widely acknowledged. TSOC groups are sophisticated, adaptive, and exploit technology to commit borderless crimes and as such, pose a very real threat to security in our region. Their methods of operating pose particular challenges for our law enforcement and security agencies and a coordinated and cooperative approach, including the collaboration between public and private sectors and the integration of innovative strategies and technologies is essential to counter this growing and increasingly sophisticated threat. This project will consider what technology, people and processes are critical for Australia to effectively counter this threat. The intent is to include the widest possible range of knowledge and understanding across public and private sectors.

IFRS will conduct a series of interviews and closed workshops (x2), facilitated by IFRS principals and supported by authoritative, learned speakers. Each workshop will be of half-day duration, starting with a working breakfast.  The Chatham House Rule will apply, that is: participants will be free to use the information received during workshops, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of speakers, nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.

At the completion of the interviews and workshops, a Research Paper will be prepared and distributed to relevant stakeholders.
