National Security in the
Digital Age

Prakash Mirchandani

RSVP: Essential by Monday 26 July 2010 (for security and catering)

New Media technologies are changing the nature of influence – and the ways in which governments and militaries have influenced their audiences in the past is on the wane.  Prakash Mirchandani will present on the impact New Media has on Australia's National Security and how governments and industry should prepare for this revolution in communication technologies.

The technologies themselves, such as small video cameras and mobile phones are not new. What is new is the way they are increasingly being used to transmit information and change opinion through the Internet. The technologies have also thrown into turmoil the traditional media’s business models.

Prakash Mirchandani is a Visiting Fellow at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre (SDSC) of the Australian National University (ANU). He is also a visiting lecturer and media consultant to the Australian Defence College and the Australian Institute of Police Management. During a 32-year media career, Prakash has been a correspondent and senior news executive with All India Radio and Television, BBC Television News and ABC TV Australia. He is a consultant to the Control Risks Group on Crisis Communications.

Participation is free for young professionals and Kokoda Foundation members.

The Kokoda Foundation proudly presents monthly seminars intended primarily for Kokoda's Young Strategic Leaders (YSLs) and for all Kokoda Foundation members.
