The Institute for Regional Security

Future Strategic Leaders

A key priority for the Institute For Regional Security is to foster the next generation of Australia’s national security leaders. Our Future Strategic Leaders' program was established by IFRS to provide a challenging environment for Australia’s brightest and best young minds to develop their skills, gain practical experience, and build a network of national security professionals and experts across government, industry and academia.

Each of our programs comprises innovative activities specifically tailored to our Future Strategic Leaders' (FSL). These include:

  • Intensive, retreat-style Congresses.
  • The annual National Security Careers Night held in March each year.
  • Our ideas forum NEXT.
  • Our on-line publication The Regionalist (A generous prize of $2500 will be awarded to the best article submitted by an author under the age of 35 years of age).
  • Monthly networking drinks.
  • Professional development Seminars and special events.

 Future Strategic Leaders' Committee

The volunteer committee of the FSL program is comprised of motivated individuals based in Canberra who primarily work in government departments, private industry, or are studying. The committee comprise Executive Members, each responsible for a particular aspect of FSL activities, and a pool of volunteers, helping at IFRS events. The Executive are paid members of IFRS and work closely with the IFRS Board and senior management and make a valuable contribution to the delivery of IFRS programs and priorities.

Several past FSL committee executive members now support  IFRS as part of our Board of Directors.
